What Your Blood Tests Might Be Missing

"When 'Normal' Isn't Normal: What Your Blood Tests Might Be Missing"

“Your blood tests are normal.”
It’s meant to be reassuring.
But what if you still feel exhausted, bloated, foggy, or just… off?

If your body is screaming that something isn’t right—but your doctor tells you otherwise—you’re not imagining it.

You’re just missing the full picture.

I’ve been there.

For years, I knew something was wrong.
The bloating. The fatigue. The anxiety that came out of nowhere.
But every time I went to my GP, the tests came back “normal.”

I left appointments feeling gaslit by my own body. Like maybe I was imagining it.
But deep down, I knew better.

It wasn’t until I kept digging, kept listening to my symptoms, and eventually pushed for deeper testing that I got the diagnosis: colitis.

It shouldn’t have taken years.
And that’s exactly why I do what I do now—so other women don’t have to wait that long for clarity.

Here’s what most women aren’t told:

🩺 “Normal” doesn’t always mean optimal.
Lab reference ranges are based on averages—not on what feels right for you.

🧬 And your blood tests might not be telling the whole story.

Why your bloods might miss key info:

1️⃣ Not all markers are tested.
Hormones like oestrogen, progesterone, cortisol—or nutrients like zinc, magnesium, and selenium—are often left out unless specifically requested.

2️⃣ Reference ranges aren’t personalised.
You could fall within the “normal” range and still feel awful, because what’s “normal” for one person isn’t necessarily optimal for you.

3️⃣ Symptoms often show up before blood results do.
Especially in midlife, when your hormones, metabolism, and stress response are shifting. You can feel the impact before it shows up on paper.

4️⃣ Timing matters.
Hormones fluctuate daily and across your cycle. A test taken at the “wrong” time can miss the bigger picture entirely.

So, what can you do?

✨ Trust your gut — your symptoms are real.
✨ Ask what was actually tested (and what wasn’t).
✨ Request a printout of your results — or check the NHS app yourself.
✨ Explore further testing if needed — either privately or through a specialist.

Because this is the truth:

Your health is too important to ignore ‘normal’ when you don’t feel normal.
